Katie is a speech-language pathologist at More Than Speech. She holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and is licensed to practice speech pathology by holding a state license in Florida. Katie graduated from Rollins College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education (K-6). After teaching for three years, she then went on to receive her Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Florida to become a speech-language pathologist.
While participating in her undergraduate degree at Rollins College, Katie was awarded the following: Outstanding Academic Achievement for community involvement, and Outstanding Academic Achievement for being in the top 5% of the Educational Department. As a previous educator, Katie maintained a Florida Professional Teacher Certification in Elementary/ESOL Education (K-6), passed all required Teacher Certification Exams, and participated in selected coursework in her major: Curriculum Development for Diverse Learners, Diagnosis of Reading Difficulties, Teaching and Learning in Diverse Elementary Schools.
Katie has worked as a Speech Language Pathologist in a variety of settings, including early intervention, adult intensive care, elementary school based, and adult/pediatric outpatient therapy. Katie has received specialty training in Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) as well as PROMPT© therapy, which is a tactile-kinesthetic approach to address children with articulation disorders and apraxia of speech.
Katie has many years of experience in the elementary and middle school settings as an educator where she has worked with inclusive classrooms, general education classrooms, and advanced/standard middle school classrooms. She has experience with creating innovative curriculum sequences to suit and accommodate a variety of learning style techniques as well as mastered the art of making learning fun, engaging, and individualized. She prides herself on building a child's self-esteem by providing children with skills they need to go out into the community and succeed.
